Becoming a Volunteer Official

Canadian athletics officials volunteer their expertise and time to ensure the quality and fairness of competition in the areas of track and field, race walking, cross-country and long distance running.

Towards this end, Athletics Canada provides a national program for the training and grading for the officials. There are five grades of officials. The provincial association approves levels I - III, while levels IV and V are administered by the National Committee.

If you are interested in volunteering and/or would simply like to know more about officiating, we hope this site will help demystify the role of the officials towards assuring fairness in competitions. Please check out our website, and/or call, fax, or email us with any questions you may have at the addresses below. You can also talk to us during scheduled track and field events

If you feel you're got what it takes (see Qualities and Considerations for a Good Track & Field Official, Officials Code of Ethics, Athletics Alberta's Drug Abuse and_Doping Control Policy, and Sexual Harassment Policy) and want to join the rest of us penguins - great! You can download a copy of the Officials application form here, request we send a hard copy out to you, or pick one up at any of our meets. Complete the application, along with a signed copy of the Informed Consent Agreement and forward them to one of the adresses below.
