As a primary service to its membership, Athletics Alberta has purchased a comprehensive insurance policy designed to protect registered members who, while participating in athletics, sustain a serious injury which causes some hardship and/or if they are named as a defendant in a legal action implicating liability for the cause of someone else’s injury. This coverage is extended to individual athletes, clubs and race organisers who might otherwise be unable to purchase any insurance coverage or, at least, similar coverage at a reasonable cost.
Also, in the event that a participant in a race or meet which leads him/her to pursue legal action charging liability on the part of another individual runner, the race organiser, or a club, the Association’s liability coverage will provide 3rd party liability protection up to a maximum of $4 million. This is an important step forward towards the creation of an environment where Albertans can enjoy athletics worry-free.
1. Comprehensive General Liability Coverage
- $4 million 3rd party liability coverage inclusive limit subject to $4 million aggregate projects
- includes: injury to participants; premises, property and operations; blanket contractual liability, non-owned automobile; employees and volunteers as additional named insureds; occurrence property damage; personal injury
2. Sports Accident Coverage
- voluntary medical payments ($1,000/person - $10,000/accident) cross liability clause
- provides benefits to registered members for injury resulting from travelling to and from (as a team) or participation in an athletics activity
- specific loss accident indemnity for loss of life, loss of limb(s); loss of sight/speech/hearing
- additional coverage for accident reimbursement expense; dental expense; tuition fees; emergency transportation; fracture, dislocation and rehabilitation indemnity; out-of-country hospital & medical.
